Dead Ringer: Classic Rock Aged to Perfection
Tom Nelson - Guitar
Tom Nelson’s playing career goes back further than he’d like to admit . Originally trained on mandolin and classical violin, Tom transitioned to guitar at the age of 10. Within a few years he had joined his first band and started playing in bars before he had a license to drive. At the age of 18, Tom and the other members of the popular bar band, ROCKS, could be seen and heard opening up for bands such as Steppenwolf, Brownsville Station, and regional favorite, Smokehouse.
With his roots firmly grounded in Midwest rock n’ roll, Tom continued to play locally for a few more years. At the age of 21, he relocated to Texas and joined forces with former back-up musicans for Elvis Presley and Tom Jones to establish a band for a young up-and-coming singer/entertainer. Tom continued to tour the United States for the next 8 years in various bands playing everything from rock to country to jazz.
By 1987 in was time to return home and be part of the real world (college, work, marriage, etc) but still found time to play in a few local bands.
In the early 90’s, Tom made an attempt at a solo career with this band, Tommy Salami and the All Beef Wieners. Unfortunately, due to declining demand for live music, the band came up....short. On a positive note, the band’s top 100 classic tune, Bratwurst Boogie, remains one of the most requested songs at MPRK radio (pronounced mmm...pork) in Sheboygan.
Tom took a break from live performing for nearly ten years but came out of retirement to bless Dead Ringer with his virtuoso, soul-searing guitar work.
Tom’s weapons of choice are an arsenal of Les Pauls, Strats and Paul Reed Smith guitars as well as Marshall amps and other WMD (Weapons of Mass Distortion)
